MacArthur Maxims
I heard a friend talk through some specific values he, his wife, & kids have adopted and integrated into their day-to-day language. Since then, I’ve been trying to do the same with the kids. I should’ve done this a long time ago, but better late than never.
Here’s where our “MacArthur Maxims” are at now, in no particular order, and open to change as needed.
Be a boulder in the river.
MacArthurs do not conform.
We don’t compromise on our convictions, values, nor truth, no matter how strong the current of the culture tries to sway us.
Never in neutral.
MacArthurs are not apathetic.
We are either drawing people closer to the kingdom or driving them away; growing or dying; advancing or retreating. We resist passive indifference and apathy.
Be wind in one's sails.
MacArthurs encourage.
We will be quick to encourage and uplift everyone the people around us, especially those who need it the most.
Tell a single story.
MacArthurs have integrity.
We will be the same people in private and in public, living by integrity and consistency of character.
Row until the oars break. (And then use your hands.)
MacArthurs never give up!
We do not give up on worthy pursuits — not even when there seems to be no way to forward.
